TripWatt

Updated September 5, 2026

Overview

TripWatt is developed by Eric Walker. It lets you manually record EV vehicles, trips, routes, stops, battery levels, charging details, costs, and notes. TripWatt does not contain advertising, analytics, or non-Apple third-party data services.

Information you enter

The app stores the content you choose to enter: vehicle names and specifications; trip names, dates, locations, routes, and notes; and stop details such as distance, state of charge, efficiency, charging network, charging duration, energy added, and amount spent. TripWatt derives statistics and calculations from this information. Unit, currency, and iCloud-sync preferences are also stored.

On-device storage

Trip and vehicle records are kept in TripWatt's persistent SwiftData store on your device. Preferences are stored using Apple's on-device preferences system. If iCloud Sync is off, TripWatt configures its data store without CloudKit synchronization.

iCloud and CloudKit

iCloud Sync is enabled by default and may be turned off in Settings. When enabled, TripWatt uses Apple's private CloudKit database to store and synchronize the app's vehicle, trip, leg, and stop records between devices using the same iCloud account. Apple therefore processes and stores synchronized information as part of its iCloud and CloudKit services, subject to Apple's terms and privacy practices. Changing the TripWatt sync setting takes effect the next time the app opens.

Sharing, export, and import

You can choose to share a text trip summary or export CSV spreadsheet and backup files through Apple's system interfaces. TripWatt does not select a recipient. Any person, app, or storage provider you choose may receive that exported information and apply its own privacy practices. Import reads a CSV file you select; restoring a backup replaces current app data after confirmation.

Permissions and tracking

The examined app does not request access to location, camera, photos, contacts, microphone, health data, or cross-app tracking. It does not implement an advertising identifier, third-party analytics, or third-party crash reporting. The app declares remote-notification background capability for Apple CloudKit synchronization support; no app-facing marketing notification feature was found.

Non-Apple third parties

The examined version has no non-Apple SDK or service that receives, collects, or retains user information. User-initiated sharing or export is an exception controlled by the user: information goes to the destination the user selects.

Retention and deletion

Records remain in the app's store until you edit or delete them, replace them through backup import, remove the app and its local data, or manage synchronized data through applicable Apple/iCloud controls. A CSV file you export remains wherever you save or share it until deleted there. CloudKit retention and account-level deletion are handled through Apple's services and controls.

Children

TripWatt is a general travel-record utility and is not designed to solicit personal information from children.

Changes

If TripWatt's data practices change, this policy should be updated before the changed version is published. The updated date above identifies this draft.
