ExpenseKit Privacy Policy

Updated October 9, 2026

This policy describes the current ExpenseKit app provided by Eric Walker. ExpenseKit organizes receipt collections, recognizes receipt text, calculates totals, and creates reports and backup files.

Information you add

The app stores collection names and dates, receipt merchants, dates, amounts, categories, notes, receipt images, optional original PDFs, identifiers, creation timestamps, and combined-charge information. Images and PDFs may contain additional personal or financial details from the original document. Settings include PDF preferences, onboarding status, haptic choices, and scan-request flags.

Storage and on-device processing

ExpenseKit stores app records on your device using SwiftData. It uses Apple Vision and document-scanning APIs to process receipt images and PDF pages on the device. Recognized text is used for review and suggestions; selected details are stored when you save the receipt. A local Apple App Group shares collection names and identifiers, queued import attachments, and import metadata between the app and its extension.

CloudKit, Apple services, and chosen files

ExpenseKit does not implement CloudKit synchronization and does not configure an iCloud data container. Apple device backup services may store app data depending on your device settings. If you select photos or files managed by iCloud or another file provider, that provider may retrieve them under its own practices. If you choose iCloud Drive for an export or backup, Apple stores that chosen copy in your Apple/iCloud environment. These platform or user-selected actions are separate from automatic app-managed synchronization.

Permissions

Camera access is used when you scan a receipt. PhotosPicker lets you choose an image; the examined app does not request broad photo-library access. File import reads documents you select. You can manage camera access through device Settings. Choosing not to scan still allows selected-photo or PDF import.

Automatic transfers, tracking, and sales

The examined ExpenseKit implementation does not automatically send user data to a non-Apple service and contains no custom backend, third-party analytics, advertising, tracking, or crash-reporting SDK. Eric Walker does not sell user information. The app does not require an account or subscription.

Exports and sharing

PDF reports may include collection dates, counts, totals, selected receipt details, and full receipt images or rendered pages from attached PDFs. Hiding a report field does not remove that information from a receipt image. Backup files contain collection and receipt details, identifiers, dates, amounts, categories, notes, images, original PDFs, and combined-charge group information. These exported files are not encrypted by ExpenseKit. Exporting or sharing is your choice. You select where the file goes through the Apple share sheet, including Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop, email, or another available app or service. A non-Apple recipient you choose may access, store, or retain the copy under its own practices. Deleting the record in ExpenseKit does not delete an exported copy, and ExpenseKit cannot revoke or remotely delete a shared file.

Retention and deletion

Records remain in the app’s local store until you remove them or the app’s local data is removed. You can delete receipts or collections; collection deletion also removes its related app receipts. The app writes generated reports and backups into temporary local directories and queues imported attachments locally. Queued attachments are removed after review is saved or canceled, but no fixed automatic cleanup period is promised for abandoned imports or temporary files. Keep backups before deleting the app or replacing a device. Deleting app records does not erase original files in Photos/Files, device backups, or copies held by recipients. Manage those separately.

Security and your choices

Protect your device and choose export recipients carefully. ExpenseKit does not add encryption or passwords to PDF reports or backup files. File encoding is not encryption, and no absolute protection against access or loss is promised. Review file contents before sharing. You may avoid support email and choose to keep exported files in a destination you control.

Optional support correspondence

Contacting support is optional. Eric Walker receives the information you choose to send, and your email service may process the correspondence. ExpenseKit does not automatically send your financial records to support. Please avoid sending sensitive receipts or account details unless necessary, and redact them where possible.

Policy updates

If this policy is revised, its updated date will change. Review the policy available with the app’s published information for the applicable description of its behavior.
